System requirements

For the use of JAM your server needs the following software:
  • A webserver with Joomla 1.5 installed. Check always if you are using the latest version!
  • PHP 5 or higher
  • MySQL 4.1.1 or higher
If you are unsure about your configuation you may contact your webhost about the server's software.
To execute the tutorials below, you need to be logged in with administrator rights at the backend.

Installation

The installation of JAM is in no way hard one, just follow the step.: (If you are already logged in, you can skip the login steps)

Component
  1. Download the latest version of the component to your computer. (www.joomladev.org > downloads > Joomla Advanced Message)
  2. Go to Joomla's installer (Extensions > Install/Uninstall)
  3. Click on 'Choose' ('Package File:') to open a select-window and select the file you just downloaded to your computer
  4. Click on 'Upload File & Install' to install JAM.
  5. A message with 'Successfully installed JAM!' will be showed after the installation.
    Actions are marked green or red. Green is obvious no issue, but if an actions is marked red, please contact us using the forum. Copy the action code and we will help you if needed.
    Note: You might see errors about languages not being installed, you do not need to worry about them. Joomla's installer has not been fully completed yet.
Now the next step; JAM needs a template to output it's pages.

Template
  1. Download the latest version of a template to your computer. (www.joomladev.org > downloads > Joomla Advanced Message)
  2. Go to Joomla's installer (Extensions > Install/Uninstall)
  3. Click on 'Choose' ('Package File:') to open a select-window and select the file you just downloaded to your computer
  4. Click on 'Upload File & Install' to install the template.
  5. Joomla will give a succes message if the installtion went correctly
Now the next step(s); the plugins.

Plugins
You will need plugins for all enabled editors and possible for profiling
  1. Download the latest version of a plugin to your computer. (www.joomladev.org > downloads > Joomla Advanced Message)
  2. Go to Joomla's installer (Extensions > Install/Uninstall)
  3. Click on 'Choose' ('Package File:') to open a select-window and select the file you just downloaded to your computer
  4. Click on 'Upload File & Install' to install the template.
  5. Joomla will give a succes message if the installtion went correctly
  6. Enable the plugin (Extensions > Install/Uninstall)
Link / Menu-item
Now JAM is ready to be used, but for the users to use JAM, you will have to add a link.
  1. Open the menu which should contain the link
  2. Click on the button 'New', at the right top of your screen.
  3. You will see a list with installed components. Somewhere is a link of 'Joomla Advanced Message'. Click on this link.
  4. You will see 2 new links: 'Inbox' and 'New'. Click on 'Inbox'.
  5. Fill in the 'Title' of the link, for example "Messages" and select 'Registered' by 'Access Level'
  6. Click on the button 'Save', at the right top of your screen.
You now have succesfully installed JAM and it is ready to be used.
Below is described how to configurate JAM and integrate it with Communtity Builder and Fireboard.


Integration with Community Builder
If you are using Community Builder you of course want to have Community Builder use JAM. This integration is possible by a special cb-plugin.

Upgrade

General
No more overhead by uninstalling and reinstalling again; upgrade! You can peform exactly the same actions, written by Installing::Component
